Files in Studium

When you upload a file in Studium - via modules or pages - the file is automatically placed in the Files page. The Files page is a place where all the course's uploaded Files can be found. There you can upload files and create folders to structure the files.

Files is hidden by default in the course navigation menu

TIPS!

We recommend that you create folders before you begin uploading files. It is easier to create an organised file page if you have a folder structure from the beginning.

  • Files_Folder.pngClick on + Folder to create a folder. Give it a name and click the checkmark to save it.
  • Open the folder by clicking on the folder name/title.

Upload a File

Via Files in the course menu, you can create folders and upload files from your computer.

  1. Click on the Upload button in the top right corner.
  2. Now your computer's File Explorer should open. Find your file and click Open.

Upload a ZIP File

Files_ZIP.png

When you upload ZIP files to Studium, you can choose to upload the zip file as it is or expand it and upload the files within.

Upload it — Upload the file as a ZIP file.

Expand it — Upload the files within the ZIP file. We recommend you create a new folder before you expand the ZIP file.

Replace a File

You can't edit files which are already uploaded to Studium. Instead you edit the files on your computer and then replace the old file with the newly edited one.

The easiest way to do this is to give the file the exact the same name  and make sure you are uploading the edited one to the same folder as the original. This will trigger a prompt asking you if you wish to replace the old file, click replace.

Changing the file in this way will make make it so every instance of this file is replaced. If you do this with an image it will also affect every page. Studium does the swapping for you.

Delete Files

  1. Select the file you wish to delete by clicking on it. (Avoid clicking on the file's name, this opens the file.) You can select several files if you hold the CTRL key on your keyboard and select the files one-by-one.
  2. Once you have selected a file, the toolbar will appear. Click the trashcan button to delete the file/s.

File Visibility Settings

If you show Files in the course menu, students can see all published files, therefore it is a good idea to steer over the files visibility settings.

In Studium there are four options of visibility:

Publicera.png   Publish. The green icon indicates that a file is published and that anyone (instructors and students) can see it.

Opublicerad.png  Unpublished. When the file is unpublished only teachers can see the file. Even if you add the link to a module or a page, the students cannot see it or access it. The folder or file will not be visible for the students in Files.

EjSynlig.png  Only available with link. Similar to unpublished, however the students can see it if you add it to a page, add it to a module or send them the link. The folder or file will not be visible for the students in Files.

Tillgänglig.png  Schedule availability. File becomes available to students after a set date and time.

Uploaded Media

If you upload a file to a module or page, the file will automatically end up in the "Uploaded media" folder. The good thing to know is that the Uploaded Media folder is hidden from students, and students only access the files within it if they get the link to the file (via module, page, for example)

Add Files to a Page

Whether you are linking to a single file, or if you are creating a list of files, you can do so by adding the files to a page.

  1. Click the arrow next to the document-icon.
  2. Choose Course Documents.
