Embed videos in a course page

There are different ways to embed videos in courses in Studium. We strongly recommend that you upload videos to Canvas Studio and then embed the video in a course page. You can also upload YouTube videos to Canvas Studio if the video is not in your computer's files.

If you want to record a very short film, you can do it directly in the content editor — BE WARNED — this can quickly lead to your course file storage hitting max capacity.

Canvas Studio

In Studium there is a video tool called Canvas Studio. You can find it in the content editor via Tools > Apps. Or in the global menu on the left via the Studio button.

In Studio you can:

Record PowerPoint presentations, with or without yourself in the picture
Upload Zoom recordings from your computer
Share and embed uploaded videos in a course in Studium
Easily subtitle your recordings

A few of the advantages of Canvas Studio:

Increases engagement - Canvas Studio engages students and teachers. Students have the opportunity to comment and ask questions while watching a video. The teacher can also enter questions (quiz) that the students have to answer while watching the video.

Increases accessibility - When you upload a video to Canvas Studio, you have the ability to automatically generate subtitles for your which you can then edit and publish for your students.

Saves course file storage limit - All video and sound uploaded to Canvas Studio does not count towards your course's file storage limit. Instead, you get a personal Studio library space.

Record short videos in the content editor

If your goal is to record a short video (30 seconds - 5 minutes) eg. introduction as a teacher or to give verbal feedback to a student, then you can use the rich content editor to record it.

HEADS UP! When you record videos using the rich content editor, these videos will take up space in your course file storage limit. Please keep these films SHORT. If you want to record a longer video, please use Canvas Studio.

When editing using the rich content editor:

Click on Insert > Media > Upload/Record Media

Click on Record. (Sometimes you must first allow Studium to use your microphone and camera.)
Click Start Recording to begin recording.

When you are done recording, click Finish. Now you can playback your video.
Either press Start Over to erase your film and begin recording again — or save your video by clicking Save Media.
