Gradebook | Grading in SpeedGrader

Correcting Assignments in Studium

The grading tool in Studium is called SpeedGrader. In SpeedGrader you can read students' submissions, leave comments, and give reviews. You can also annotate / comment directly in the student's submission. On this page we show how to find SpeedGrader, how to use SpeedGrader and other tips.

If you want to quickly grade multiple students, (for example, when marking attendance), then you may prefer to grade directly in  the Gradebook. Read more in the guide: Grading in the Gradebook

Overview of SpeedGrader

In the image below, you can see an overview of SpeedGrader. We have divided SpeedGrader into three sections.
(A) The top section: Assignment information and settings.
(B) The right side: Give students grades and leave comments.
(C) The big section in the middle: DocViewer. DocViewer allows you to see the students' submission and let's you leave feedback and annotate directly in the document.

We go over the different sections in much more detail below.

A. At the Top

  1. To leave SpeedGrader and return to the Gradebook, you can click the book icon at the top left.
  2. You can change how the student list in SpeedGrader filters students via the cog-wheel icon > options. You can also hide student names if you wish to grade more anonymously.

B. To the Right

  1. At the top of the right section, you can navigate between student submissions by clicking on the arrows next to the student's name. If you click on the student's name, a list of all students' names will open.

  2. If the student has handed in several submission attempts, you can see them here as well as the time and ate they were submitted. Under the submission attempts you can see when the student last viewed this submission.

  3. Once the submission is finished being analyzed for plagiarism by Ouriginal, you will see the result of the analysis here. Read: Gradebook | Ouriginal (Urkund)
Click the arrow to the right of the Ouriginal result to download the student's submission.

4. Enter a grade. If you do not eter a grade, then the system considers the assignment ungraded.

NOTICE: Students receive a notification as soon as you enter a grade in SpeedGrader. Consider whether or not you want to set SpeedGrader and the Gradebook to manual posting of grades. This means grades will be hidden from all students until you choose to post them. (Read: Gradebook | Grade Posting Options )

5. You can leave a comment to the student here. Once you have finished writing the comment it is important to click Submit for it to save.

In the comment box, you can also attach files or record a short video as feedback.

C. Mark Directly in the Assignment

DocViewer is the window in which you can see previews of students' submissions. (What file types are supported by DocViewer? Links to an external site.) In DocViewer you will find tools which allow you to annotate and leave feedback to students directly in their submitted document.

  1. In the window, you can see the student's submission.
  2. Download the submission with comments with the download icon.
  3. You can rotate documents 90 degrees clockwise if necessary.
  4. Preview the submission in full-screen mode. This is very useful if you wish to annotate and leave feedback using a smaller screen.
  5. The toolbar:
    a. Point annotation
    b. Highlight annotation
    c. Free text annotation
    d. Strikeout annotation
    e. Free draw annotation
    f. Area annotation
