Let students read each others work

If you want students to be able to share files with each other, unfortunately, they cannot upload files to the course folders. Instead there are three alternative ways to go about this, depending on your course, one of these methods may work better than another.

And luckily these are easy solutions that take less than a minute to make student file-sharing possible.

By the way, if you want students to give each other feedback, perhaps Peer Reviews is a better alternative.

The students attach files via Discussions

One way for students to share files is via Discussions. To do this, attaching files must be enabled in the setting:

  1. Click on Discussions in the course menu.
  2. Click the on the cog in the upper right corner.
  3. Check the box  Attach files to discussions and Save Settings.

When you want students to share files with each other, simply start a new discussion and pin it to the top of the discussions page so that the students find it easily.

Sharing files in a Group

Inside group spaces, all members have the right to share files with each other.

Because of this, if you create one big group and add all students, they can use it to share and read each other's work.

  1. Click on People in the course menu.
  2. Then click + Group set.
  3. Give the group a name, for example: "Share your files here."
  4. Set it so it only creates 1 group.
  5. When you click Save, all students will be automatically assigned this group.

The group will be named as you wanted it, but with a "1" at the end. You can remove the "1" by clicking the three dots to the right of the groups name and Edit.

Downloading all submissions and then uploading them sounds like a lot of work - when in actuality - Studium makes it easy. It downloads all submissions into a zip-file so you never need to keep track of more than one file.

Studium also keeps track of each students name with their assignment counterpart so it is always clear what files belongs to who.

1. Open the assignment.
2. On the right (if your window is full screen) there is a button Download Submissions.
3. The files are downloading. Wait until it's completed.

5. For clarity and organizations sake, create a new folder before you upload the zip-file.
6. Open the new folder and click Upload. Choose the zip file you want to share.
7. Click Expand It - this will upload the files in their original format as opposed to a zip.

Remember to tell your students which method they should use.

Since there are multiple ways of letting the students read each others work, make sure to inform the students which way you have chosen and how they should go about sharing their work.
