4.2 Using tracking data to evaluate the game

Live lecture on Tuesday 22nd September 10:15 will look at what can be done with tracking data and give a walkthrough of the tracking data you will use in this part of the course.

4.3 Tracking data

For the exercises you can download tracking data, kindly provided by Signality, for three Allsvenskan matches from the 2019 season using the code here. You need to put in the username and password which is sent as an announcement in the course and as a message on the Slack group (see course home page on details of how to join the Slack group).

Some basic code for plotting player positions is here. You need to download the whole Github directory to run the code.

There are three matches. I have put up videos of the matches here, here and here. We do not currently have event data for these matches, but you can find events here by searching fo the matches here: https://analytics.twelve.football/analytics.

4.4 Using tracking data exercise

This is a graded exercise on looking at control of areas of the pitch. Deadline is Sunday 11th of October. See using tracking data for details. We will discuss this in the tutorials on the 24th September and 8th of October.

4.5 Measuring player velocities and movements
