Artjom Jefimov, 2nd year Bachelor programme in Energy transition - sustainability and leadership

What got you interested to study Energy Transition?

The relevance of this topic for our society, I reckon. Many of the wonderful things in the world stem from our advancements on the energy front, just as many horrible things do. Energy transition felt like the right academic field to immerse myself into - it is broad and highly consequential. I hoped to learn a bit of everything at this programme and get a holistic overview of the modern world. In retrospect, I think I’ve got what I wanted.

What do you like most about studying on Gotland?

The pervasive sense of community. I feel connected to the people here. Studying in this supportive and welcoming environment has been vital for my well-being, motivation, and creativity. There are other things I love about Gotland, of course – its nature, architecture, sunsets - but the people are the first thing I start missing when I go home.

In which part of campus are you most likely to be found studying?

Prior to becoming a teaching assistant at our programme, I typically frequented the library for studying. However, since taking on my new role, I now primarily study at my desk, which is located in the B-building. I am very fortunate to have a designated workspace on campus.

Which course has been your favourite so far, and why?

That's a tough question because I've enjoyed different aspects of different courses. If I had to choose, I would say that the Planning and Environmental Justice course was my favourite lectures-wise. Tom, our professor, is super engaging and highly knowledgeable – at his lectures time flies. The Innovations for Energy Transition course had some of the most stimulating assignments. I especially valued the feedback I received on my writings. Finally, the Environmental and Climate Change course was structured in a way that I found really helpful. The pacing was just right, and the assignments built on each other in a way that helped me to deepen my understanding of the material.
