Welcome to the joint course page for:

Biomedical Research Methodology (3MR101, 15.0 credits) given to the Master's students in Medical Research

and

Advanced Scientific Research and Methodology (3MK015, 15.0 credits) given to the Master's students in Infection Biology!

The courses aim to provide theoretical knowledge of current biomedical methods and their practical applications during the design, performance, analysis and troubleshooting phases of the research projects.

The courses describe a broad spectrum of molecular biology techniques used in current biomedical research with the aim to give the students a thorough understanding on possibilities and pitfalls of these techniques. The scope of methodology from handling DNA sequences, to protein characterization and analysis at a cellular level shall equip the students with a capacity to understand and apply these methods in future research, and also to be able to critically interpret other researchers´ data.

Teaching is performed in English and consists of lectures, complemented with student activating mandatory education (seminars, journal clubs, assignments and laboratory sessions).

The course exams will be held 2024-01-05 (the exact time and place available in the course schedule in Ladok). Please note that the exams start at the full hour and not quarter past (e.g. 8:00 instead of 8:15) and the exams are held at specific exam halls that may be located outside your campus area! Furthermore, do not forget to take an ID (that has your photo in) and your student account login with you on the exam day! You are allowed to take with you something to eat and drink to the exam table/computer.

You need to register for the exams at least 12 days beforehand. You will be able to see the registration periods and do the registrations in "Ladok for Students", which you can find the link to on the left side.

Please take a look at the information on digital exams, there you will see how to log into the digital examination system "Inspera" and you will find guidelines to the "test" exam - it's good to try out the system before the actual exam occasion:

Grading

The exam is graded as fail (U), pass (G) or passed with distinction (VG), whereas assignments are examined at seminars or through oral and/or written reports and will be graded fail (U) or pass (G) only.
To pass the course the students have to attend and be active in all compulsory sessions. The final grade of the course is based on a weighted rating of all course sections and is graded as fail (U), pass (G) or passed with distinction (VG).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the indicated method of evaluation and allow a student to be assessed using another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's coordinator for special support.
