In this course, there are some parts that are mandatory in order to pass the course, and some parts you only have to do if you strive for a higher grade.
Mandatory parts (have to pass in order to pass the course):
Project: Empirical Modelling of Some Processes - EMSP2023.
Group work (4 students/group). Both a written report and an oral presentation are required.
Project: Black box modeling competition - BBM2023
Group work (1-2 students/group). The goal is to find "the best" model using a given data set. Written report.
Quizzes:
There will be four quizzes in the course. These will include both practical tasks and theoretical questions. You are allowed to retake each quiz as many times as you want (your highest score counts). In order to pass the course you need to get at least 80% of the points on every quiz.
Soft deadlines: For the quizzes, there are soft deadlines. Before the soft deadline, there are occasions you can ask the teachers if you have any questions about the quiz (either e-mail or during e.g. computer labs). You are highly recommended to complete the quiz before the soft deadline.
Strict deadline: In order to get your grade registered at the end of the course, you must have completed all quizzes by October 30. Otherwise, you will not be able to get a grade before the re-examination period.
Process lab:
You have to pass the process lab.
For higher grades
If you have passed all mandatory parts, you will receive grade 3. To get a higher grade you can do one or both of the following (each part you pass increases your grade one step):
- Your report for EMSP2023 is of high quality and submitted before the deadline. Besides this you also have to complete one of the optional tasks.
- Pass the optional exam.
