Course syllabus
Welcome to Professional Training (PT), a lecture serie, for Master´s Programmes in Medical Science!
Professional Training (PT) is an integrated lecture serie in some of the courses of 8 of the Master ́s programmes given by the Faculty of Medicine at Uppsala University. International programmes participating; Biomedicine, Forensic Science, Infection Biology, Innovative Medicine, Medical Research, Medical Nuclide Techniques, Molecular Medicine and Precision Medicine. You, as a Master ́s student at these programmes need to pass the assignments of this lecture serie to pass your first semester of your Master ́s programme and later be able to get your exam as a Master of Medical Science (MMSc).
Responsible PT: Master ́s Programme Committee (MPK) where all 12 Master´s Programme directors at the Faculty of Medicine plus three Masters students from MMC (Medical Master Council) are members.

Learning Outcomes
The goal of these lectures and assignments is to give the opportunity for you as an International Master ́s student in Medical Science to develop as a professional, as a member of the global academic community in life sciences. Knowledge about how to interpret and work according to Swedish national as well as international laws and standards will be presented. These lectures are prepared as a foundation for your further development as a future researcher and leader in medical science. Furthermore, increased knowledge in ethical questions and sustainable thinking to make you reflect over what this means in terms of life science and your career.
You as a Master ́s student will have the possibility to increase/improve your knowledge in the following subjects;
•How to write and present results as a poster, manuscript and/or orally at a good scientific level for your audience. You can always learn more and improve in this important topic.
•How to implement understanding and acceptance of the differences in cultures between yourself and other global academics and what it means in terms of responsibilities towards your fellows to be a Master ́s student of an International Master ́s programme. Increased awareness of our differences leads to improvements in cultural intelligence and smoother cooperation.
You should also have an idea about
•How to create a good working environment, without using controlling behavior and with high consciousness about equal opportunities for everyone.
•The important differences between science and pseudoscience.
•That fraud and plagiarism unfortunately exists and that it is illegal and that a penalty would be devastating for a future career in science.
•How to take in consideration and be aware of bioethics as well as research ethics.
•Biobanks, the ethics involved and important laws to know about when working with these.
