Clarity and Specificity
Be clear and specific about what you want. Ambiguous prompts can lead to vague or irrelevant responses.
Example 1: Instead of “Tell me about physics,” try “Explain Newton’s three laws of motion with examples.”
Context and Detail
Provide context to help the AI understand the background or the scenario.
Example: “As a high school physics teacher, how can I explain Newton’s third law to my students?”
Iterative refinements
Start with a broad prompt and refine it based on the responses you get.
Example: “What are the applications of AI in education?” followed by “Can you give examples of AI tools used in classrooms?”
Role-playing
Specify roles to guide the tone and style of the response.
Example 1: “As a university lecturer, how would you explain the importance of academic integrity?”
Example 2: "Act as a university teacher with AI litteracy and special knowledge of prompt engineering. Your name is Paul and your task is to help me learn prompting. I am a university teacher with long teaching experience but unfamiliar with details and tips regarding prompt engineering. My name is Sara. I want to improve my skills within 30 minutes."
Example 3: "Act as the hiring manager in an interview with a candidate. Your name is Nia. Can you ask me questions to see if I'm a good fit for a project manager role? When I answer, give me specific feedback on my response. Ask me one question at a time."
Example 4: "Act as a physics university teacher at Uppsala university. Your name is Paul. I am a physics student and my name is Sara. Can you ask me questions to see if I understand basic university mechanics? When I answer, give me feedback on my response. Ask one question at a time."
Example 5: "Act as my summariser. I will give you texts in "", and you will summarize them into a list of bullet points, and a set of key quotes. Can you do this for me?"
Constraints and Instructions
Set constraints or give specific instructions to shape the response.
Example: “Summarise the main points of this article in 100 words.”
