Introduction week: Roll call and enrollment formalities
The 2023 Autumn term will start with some activities during the introduction week, August21-25.
We will have one joint information meeting, on Monday August 21, and then individual meetings with each student (Tuesday to Friday). During the joint meeting we will provide some information about your chosen programme and the courses included in it. We will give you some guidance how to select your courses. We will talk about studying in Uppsala. This will also be a good opportunity to meet with your new classmates. You can find a preliminary schedule for the introduction week further down on this page.
The courses start the week after the introduction week, from August 28.
Note that it is mandatory to attend the roll call on August 21 and it is recommended to attend an individual meeting later in the week (see a comment below about this). If you are, for some well justified reason, unable to attend, contact Nataša SladojeLinks to an external site.as soon as possible (beforethe missed meeting) to discuss if there are any possibilities to proceed.
During the individual meeting you will talk to the programme coordinator and the student advisor about your study plan, select your courses for the Autumn term, and finalise enrollment. To be registered to the programme, students with a conditional offer of enrollment must have provided the necessary documents to the University admissions ahead of time, as per the separate instructions that you should have received. For the individual meeting, all students need to be able to show a valid ID (e.g., a passport).
The schedule for the individual meetings will be arranged after the roll call on August 21.You must have completed your course selection and enrollment by August 25 the latest. We will work together to meet this deadline. You may already start with preparations by taking a closer look at the syllabus of the Master's programme in image analysis and machine learninghere and in particular the courses offered within the program herePlease, note that you are not expected to register for the courses before we discuss your selection at the individual meetings.
Courses:On Monday, 21 August, during our joint introductory meeting, you will be given practical information related to courses and some brief presentations of the courses recommended for the Autumn. We will help you to make selections that are tuned to your individual educational backgrounds, while ensuring that you meet the requirements and goals of the programme. The programme syllabus lists several optional courses that can be suitable for you, and it is sometimes possible to take courses that are not in the programme syllabus at all.
Note that each course has entry requirements that must be fulfilled in order to take it. This is very important to have on mind when selecting courses. You can meet the stated entry requirements either by having completed courses in your previous studies, or by selecting courses now so that they ensure your further progression.
While your primary focus should be on the courses included in the programmeLinks to an external site., you may also look at thewider list of all courses offered by the Department of Information Technology during the Autumn (including non-programme courses which may be possible to take). Brief presentations of some of the courses on that list can be foundhere . Please, note that these additional courses should be considered only if they replace some of the recommended programme courses which you have possibly already taken.
Courses to consider for the First Semester
We will briefly present the recommended programme courses on Monday, August 21. We will also discuss the criteria you should follow when making your own Individual Study Plan. Towards completing the Master's programme in Image Analysis and machine Learning, all students should complete the following courses offered in the First Semester:
In addition to these courses, you can select some of the courses offered with a particular aim to ensure your eligibility to the later programme courses. This selection depends on your educational background and boils down to ensuring that you have completed (during your previous studies, or now, during the first semester at the master's programme in IA&ML) all of the following courses (or their equivalents):
and you can, at this point, strategically select those relevant for you. In total, your selected course should sum up to 30 credits (15 in each of the two study periods).
You can find slides or video recordings presenting (most of) the programme recommended courses at this pageLinks to an external site.. Do take a look!
The aim of the individual study meetings that we will conduct 22-25 of August is that each of you has sent a filled in ISP form ( docxDownload docxpdfDownload pdf ) to Nataša and Olga. We encourage you to start with filling in the form already now. If you have no questions, you can send in the form even without attending the individual meeting. In case that you do have questions, we will discuss them all, and provide guidance, at the joint and the individual meetings during the introduction week.
