Roll call and enrollment formalities

The 2023 autumn term will start with some activities during the introduction week on 21-25 August. There will be two information meetings (on Monday and Tuesday) and then individual meetings with each student (Wednesday to Friday). You can find a preliminary schedule for the introduction week further down on this page. The courses start the week after the introduction week, from August 28.

Note that it is mandatory to attend the roll call on August 21, 13.00 - 15.00 and an individual meeting later in the week. If for some reason you are unable to attend, contact Bengt Jonsson Links to an external site. as soon as possible (before the missed meeting) to discuss if there are any possibilities to proceed. The roll call will be held at the Ångström Laboratory campus, house 10, at 13.00, in room 101142.

Here is a map to room 101142 at the Ångström Laboratory: https://link.mazemap.com/ekQfh7fi Links to an external site.

During the individual meeting you will talk to the programme coordinator to discuss your study plan, select courses for the autumn term and finalise enrollment. Students with a conditional offer of enrollment must have provided the necessary documents to the University admissions ahead of time, as per the separate instructions that you should have received. The schedule for these meetings will be arranged after the roll call on August 21. You must have completed your course selection and enrollment in an individual meeting before the orientation week is over on August 25.

Courses: On Tuesday, 22 August, at 13.00 in 101127, you will be given practical information around courses and some brief presentations of the "recommended" courses for the autumn. Note that you are not required to take all the courses that are marked as recommended for the programme (and indeed you shouldn't if you have already taken a similar course in your bachelor's). The programme syllabus lists several optional courses that can be taken instead, and it is sometimes possible to take courses that are not in the programme syllabus at all.

It is a good idea to already now take a closer look at the syllabus Links to an external site. of the master programme and in particular the list of courses Links to an external site.  offered as part of the programme. Note that each course has entry requirements that must be fulfilled in order to take it.

You can also look at the wider list of all courses Links to an external site. offered by the Department of Information Technology during the autumn (including non-programme courses that it may be possible to take). Brief presentations of some of the courses on that list can be found here Links to an external site..

The courses that are recommended during the first semester of the programme are

The above courses will be presented on Aug. 22. Previously, the course Introduction to Parallel Programming, 5 credits (1DL530) Links to an external site. was recommended, but is now optional. You can consider to take it instead of Computer Programming II, if previously you have taken a second course in programming.

The courses that are recommended during the second semester of the programme are

The above courses will be presented at a meeting in October 2023.

Student account

To participate in the programme it is very important that you have a student account. You can read more about getting a student account here Links to an external site..

Survey to fill in

Most of you filled in the two-minute survey to help us plan for the autumn. If you did not do so, please do it at your earliest convenience: https://doit.medfarm.uu.se/bin/kurt3/kurt/90685 Links to an external site.

Other welcoming activities

Activities are organized by various organizations every year to welcome new students.

On Wednesday, Aug. 23, a social activity is organized: using the museum steam train Lennakatten Links to an external site. from Uppsala train station to the village Marielund, about 15 km from Uppsala. The train leaves at TBA from track 10, on the east side of the station. In Marielund we will socialise and have some fun and games. A light lunch and refreshments will be served. Students in the masters programme in computer science are also invited, We'll be back in Uppsala at about TBA
